Caramel Crack!

I made the best caramel corn in the microwave - inside a brown grocery bag... worked great until the microwaves got so powerful!  No matter how I tweaked the power setting, it burned... so I resorted to a no-fail, and SO DELICIOUS oven recipe from my dear friend Judy...

Her recipe is even better as it uses PUFFED CORN - found in bags in the snack aisle... no hulls, nice huge PUFFS to caramelize!

Caramel "Crack"

Warning: Highly Addictive Food

2 bags puffed corn (I use 3) put in large roasting pan (find it in the snack food aisle)

1 cup butter
1/2 cup dark corn syrup (I use brown sugar Karo)
2 cups brown sugar
 

 Boil butter, syrup and brown sugar for 5 minutes at lowest possible temp.

 

Add 2 tsp. vanilla and 1/4 tsp. baking soda
Stir well
Pour over corn, stir gently 

Bake at 250 for 45 minutes. Stir every 15 min. 

Pour out onto countertop to cool

(and to snitch tastes!)

This is the infamous "Oil Spill" on our carpet...

After cleaning!  ECO Steam did a fantastic job!

We did learn a few things...

1. NEVER oil or spray silicone in your ball bearings... it breaks down the grease that is already in there, causing a black oozy mess!
2. NEVER rub a stain... BLOT is the key
3. Better yet, leave it alone and call a professional!  It's worth it!
4. Don't get angry - no one intended this to happen!
5. Laugh as you learn... life's too short to sweat the small stuff.
6. Tell your mess maker that you love him anyway and assure him you've done dumb stuff too like vaccuuming up cat litter and burning out a motor on your Oreck...

Lemonade

The carpet has been cleaned and looks pretty terrific!

The beast of a recliner is loaded in the Xterra, on the way to the shop for a tune-up...

The cat is enjoying sunbeams in the livingroom - which seems so spacious without the "Beast" taking up 1/3 of the room...

Life is good, and I'm making Lemonade out of these lemons...

Merry Mess!

I'm still hearing strains of:

in my head....


My Dear Husband tried to "oil" his beloved rocker/recliner Monday night... black dirty oil seeped out and made a nice mess on our livingroom carpet. He, of course, made it worse trying to clean it up....


Carpet cleaners are coming tomorrow. Pray FOR HIS SAKE that they can fix his mess...


Meanwhile I'm taking the BELOVED EVIL MESSY rocker/recliner in to LazyBoy for a "tune-up" and "oil change" tomorrow... His punishment will be living without his "throne" for 24 hours.... wish us luck on that end too...


His little adventure with the 3-in-One oil can is costing us BIG TIME... and his voice still echos in my head... perhaps to the tune of "Oh Christmas Tree!"
